My grandfather used to smother
our childhood scrapes
With
Turpentine.
And send us away.
To climb pear trees and play amongst the cattails.
How easy it all seemed.
But that has all faded away.
Behind the disco light.
The eviction notice
or the need for
Greater things.
Greener things.
That move in different ways.
And I don’t suppose turpentine
Will ever heal the wounds
Want and Need.
